Professor Philip Mellor is a prominent sociologist specializing in religion and social theory, affiliated with the University of Leeds since 1992. He currently serves as Pro-Dean for Research and Innovation in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures and previously led the School of Philosophy, Religion and History of Science (2010-2015). His research explores theoretical models of the 'sacred' and its manifestations in religious and secular contexts, particularly through collaborations with Chris Shilling.
