Philip McGowan is a Professor of American Literature at Queen's University Belfast and currently serves as AHSS Associate Dean for International Mobility & Student Experience. He has held significant leadership roles, including President of the European Association for American Studies (2016-2024) and Academic Lead for Northeastern University's NUin Program. His research focuses on intersections of literature, politics, and culture in the U.S., with specializations in 20th-century American poetry (Wallace Stevens, Elizabeth Bishop), F. Scott Fitzgerald, and narratives of addiction. McGowan has authored and edited numerous publications, including editions of The Great Gatsby and This Side of Paradise.
