Philip Martin is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at The University of Manchester, serving as Head of Department (CEAS) and leading roles such as Director of Research and Social Responsibility. He holds Fellowships from the Royal Society of Chemistry, Institute of Physics, and Institution of Chemical Engineers. His research spans process analytics, nuclear laser applications, and technological plasmas. He founded TDL Sensors Ltd., sold to Envea, and collaborates with institutions like National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL).
Education: B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Oxford and Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Cambridge.
Research focuses on in-situ measurements using spectroscopy, robotic nuclear analysis, and plasma technology. He leads projects like the EPSRC-funded TORONE initiative and PhLAME group, advancing photonics in nuclear environments. His work addresses SDGs related to sustainable energy and environmental protection.
