Philip Lyon, Ph.D., serves as Managing Director of the Ellison Center for Russian, East European, and Central Asian Studies, the Center for West European Studies, and the Jean Monnet E.U. Center of Excellence at the University of Washington. He also teaches courses on professional development and thesis writing at the Jackson School. Previously, he worked at Al Jazeera as a Project Management Coordinator and held roles with the OSCE in Kosovo, Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro. Lyon actively engages in international education advocacy, serving on boards for organizations like the Fulbright Association and Boren Forum.

- B.A. in History (focus on Russian/Eurasian Studies), Grinnell College
His research and professional interests center on Russian, East European, and Central Asian studies, with expertise in civil society promotion, international education, and multilingualism (Spanish, German, Croatian/Serbian/Bosnian, and Catalan). He has held visiting scholar roles at the Croatian Institute for History and Johns Hopkins SAIS.
