Philip Harris is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Law at Kingston University's School of Law, Social and Behavioural Sciences (Faculty of Business and Social Sciences). He has taught at Kingston since 1997 after positions at Warwick, Sheffield, and Hull Universities. Current responsibilities include module leadership for undergraduate Jurisprudence and Public Law, Law PhD Programme Leadership since 2008, and serving as Departmental Equalities, Disability and Inclusion Officer.
Academic qualifications:
- LLB (First Class) from University of Warwick
- MA in Socio-Legal Studies (Distinction) from University of Sheffield
- PhD on 'The Legal Moral and the Non-Legal Moral' from University of Sheffield
His research integrates Law and Social Theory with practical applications in Refugee Law and Public Order, examining moral foundations of legal systems and state regulation of migration and public conduct. This work bridges theoretical jurisprudence with contemporary socio-legal challenges.

Dr Harris secures research funding from major bodies including the Economic and Social Research Council and British Academy. As Law PhD Programme Leader and Level 4 undergraduate tutor, he mentors doctoral candidates and oversees academic progression while coordinating the Law PhD program.
He actively shapes inclusive departmental culture through his Equalities, Disability and Inclusion Officer role, implementing accessibility frameworks across teaching and research activities.
