Dr. Philip Chappell is an Honorary Associate Professor at Macquarie University's Department of Linguistics, specializing in Applied Linguistics and TESOL. Previously, he served as Director of Education and Course Director for Applied Linguistics and TESOL, overseeing academic programs and teaching postgraduate courses. His research focuses on Dialogic Learning, Second Language Classroom Interaction, and Professional Development for Language Teachers, emphasizing sociocultural approaches and systemic functional grammar. Though now part-time, he continues research in Northeastern Thailand. Awards include the 2025 FMHHS Education Excellence Award. Collaborations include projects on test preparation practices, multilingualism, and inquiry-based pedagogy.
