Philip C. Bobbitt is a distinguished academic with multiple affiliations: he is the Herbert Wechsler Professor of Federal Jurisprudence and Director of the Center for National Security Law at Columbia Law School, a Visiting Professor of Law at Yale Law School (fall term), and a Distinguished Senior Lecturer at the University of Texas School of Law. His work focuses on constitutional theory, international security, and the history of strategy.
He holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of Oxford (1983), a J.D. from Yale Law School (1975), and an A.B. from Princeton University (1971).
Bobbitt’s research explores foundational legal and strategic questions, including constitutional interpretation, contemporary legal theories, and national security frameworks. His contributions have bridged academia and public policy, informed by his extensive government service across Democratic and Republican administrations.
He has been honored with knighthoods from both Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III, reflecting his international acclaim. Additionally, he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and a Life Member of the American Law Institute.
