Phil Bull is an Associate Professor (Reader) in the Astronomy and Astrophysics Theory Group at the University of Manchester. He holds a PhD from Oxford University (2013) focusing on dark energy and inhomogeneous universe models. He is a Visiting Academic at the Centre for Radio Cosmology, University of the Western Cape (since 2022). His research focuses on cosmology, radio astronomy, and 21 cm intensity mapping, with particular expertise in reionization, power spectra analysis, and instrument calibration.
Key areas include the Hydrogen Epoch of Reionization Array (HERA), MeerKAT telescope calibration pipelines, and Bayesian methods for foreground mitigation. He leads development of the matvis visibility simulator and has published over 70 peer-reviewed articles. His work spans cosmological parameter estimation, modified gravity models, and relativistic effects in large-scale structure surveys.
Research collaborations involve institutions globally, with a focus on radio interferometry, dark energy probes, and cosmic microwave background studies. His contributions include seminal papers on LambdaCDM alternatives and statistical methods for 21 cm power spectrum analysis.
