Phil Arthington is a Clinical Teaching Fellow in Systemic Therapy at the School of Medicine, University of Leeds, where he works part-time. He teaches on the Systemic Practice, MSc Systemic Family Therapy, and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsychol) programmes, and serves as Programme Leader for the Postgraduate Certificate in Systemic Practice and Research Lead for the MSc programme.
His research interests focus on systemic psychotherapy, early family life, and maternal and perinatal mental health. He supervises doctoral-level thesis projects on topics such as couples' experiences of perinatal services, baby loss, birth trauma, and the experiences of minoritised ethnic groups in perinatal care. He is also engaged in philosophical research on new materialism and the perinatal assemblage under the supervision of Prof. Nick Fox and Dr. Zoe Darwin at the University of Huddersfield.
Phil Arthington is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Systemic Psychotherapist in the NHS, specialising in perinatal mental health. He is affiliated with the Leeds Institute of Health Sciences and the Psychological and Social Medicine research group.
