Petrice Flowers is a Professor at the Matsunaga Institute for Peace, University of Hawaii. Her work focuses on Japan’s international relations, global-local norm dynamics, and gender norms within diplomatic institutions. She holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Minnesota (2002) and a BA from Wellesley College (1994).
Research Interests:
- International norms diffusion and civil society activism in Japan
- Refugee protection and human trafficking advocacy
- Gender analysis of Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- Global-local connections in Japanese diplomacy
Community Engagement:
- Volunteer with Second Harvest Japan to aid homeless populations
- Tutored immigrant children in Kobe
- Advocacy work with Tokyo-based refugee support networks
