معرفی
Petri Böckerman is a Professor of Health Economics at the University of Jyväskylä's School of Business and Economics. He also serves as a research economist at the Labour Institute for Economic Research since 1996, and holds research fellow positions at the IZA Institute of Labor Economics and the Royal Society for Public Health. Additionally, he is an adjunct professor at Turku School of Economics and the University of Tampere.
Professor Böckerman received his doctoral degree in economics in 2003. His research utilizes various survey and administrative datasets to investigate issues at the intersection of health and labor economics. His work has been published in prestigious journals including American Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Human Resources, and Journal of the European Economic Association.
Böckerman leads two significant research initiatives: the Dignified and Meaningful Life research group, which examines dignity, meaningful life, hope, and participatory factors in rehabilitation processes; and the Empirical Microeconomics (EME) research group, which conducts research on labor economics, health economics, regional economics, and economics of education. His extensive publication record demonstrates consistent high-quality research output spanning over two decades, with a recent focus on mental health economics, intergenerational health effects, labor market outcomes related to health conditions, and policy evaluations of healthcare systems.
His recent work shows a strong trend toward using large-scale register-based data from Finland and other Nordic countries to examine complex relationships between health, mental well-being, and economic outcomes. The research often employs sophisticated quasi-experimental methods and leverages unique longitudinal datasets to establish causal relationships rather than mere correlations.
Professor Böckerman actively contributes to the academic community through manuscript evaluations for numerous prestigious journals including JAMA, Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Human Resources, Journal of Labor Economics, and Review of Economics and Statistics. His research has significant policy implications for healthcare systems, labor market interventions, and social welfare programs.
