Petra Klompenhouwer

Petra Klompenhouwer is a Senior Lecturer and Academic Delivery Manager at Sheffield Hallam University's College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences. She has been with the university since 2003, initially as a lecturer and later as course leader for the BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy program (2005–2014). Her current roles include supporting academic delivery managers in assessment-related matters and teaching across undergraduate, pre-registration master’s, and distance learning programs.

Her clinical expertise focuses on musculoskeletal conditions, particularly rheumatology, with a research interest in how individuals adapt to chronic conditions like rheumatoid arthritis. Her master’s work at Wayne State University validated an instrument to assess adherence to joint protection behaviors. She also studies global occupational therapy trends and European healthcare system impacts on the profession.

Professional memberships include the College of Occupational Therapists (Rheumatology Specialist Section), British Health Professionals in Rheumatology, Dutch Occupational Therapy Association, and World Federation of Occupational Therapists. She coordinates assessment and feedback improvements in her department and participates in interprofessional education initiatives.
