PD Dr. Petra Götte serves as a Senior Academic Councillor in the Department of Pedagogy at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Augsburg, where she coordinates the Additional Subject Module Health Education. Currently holding a visiting professorship at the University of Cologne, Dr. Götte has established herself as a prominent scholar in historical educational research, migration studies, and health promotion in higher education.
Dr. Götte earned her Dipl. Pädagogik with a focus on Social Pedagogy from the University of Cologne (1991-1997), completing her doctorate in Educational Science in 2002. She successfully defended her habilitation thesis "Staging Family in the Medium of Private Photography. German Emigrants in the USA in the First Half of the 20th Century" at the University of Cologne in 2017-2018, earning her Venia Legendi in Educational Science. Her academic journey includes positions at the Universities of Cologne and Augsburg, with a DFG-funded research project on German emigration to the USA.
Dr. Götte's research spans three primary interconnected domains: historical analysis of juvenile correctional services during the Nazi era, migration and family history with emphasis on visual documentation through private photography, and contemporary health promotion initiatives in university settings. Her work on migration extends to analyzing representations of migration in children's picture books, examining how these texts construct narratives of identity, belonging, and cultural difference. Her current focus on campus health promotion reflects her commitment to translating historical and theoretical insights into practical interventions that address student well-being.
Dr. Götte's scholarly contributions demonstrate a consistent pattern of bridging historical analysis with contemporary educational concerns. Her publications reveal an evolving trajectory from historical investigations of educational systems under totalitarian regimes to current applications in health promotion, with migration studies serving as a connective thread throughout her career.
