Petra Graham is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean (Curriculum and Learning) in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Macquarie University, Australia. She holds a joint appointment in the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences and is affiliated with the Data Horizons Research Centre. Her academic roles include leadership in curriculum development and teaching statistics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with prior experience as Master of Applied Statistics Program Director and Discipline Lead in Statistics.
Her educational background includes a PhD in Statistics from the University of Newcastle (2005), an MS in Statistics from Ohio State University (2000), and a BSc (Hons 1) in Mathematics and Statistics from Brunel University (1998).
Dr. Graham’s research focuses on systematic reviews and meta-analyses in evidence-based medicine, longitudinal studies in cognition and adolescent health, and the impact of climate change on healthcare systems. She has led projects such as 'Evidence synthesis to improve outcomes' (since 2006) and 'Heat, health and crime: the cost of global warming' (since 2017). Her work bridges statistical methodology with real-world applications, including studies on prostatectomy outcomes, low back pain interventions, and cochlear implant benefits.
She has received six prestigious awards, including the Vice-Chancellor’s Teaching Award (2021) and multiple research prizes for her contributions to clinical trials and public health. Her publications span over 150 peer-reviewed articles, with a focus on methodological advancements and translational research.
Dr. Graham has co-supervised numerous PhD and Master’s students, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration and mentorship. She actively engages in public outreach through media contributions, addressing topics like climate change impacts and healthcare policy.
