Petia Genkova

Prof. Dr. Petia Genkova is a Professor of Business Psychology at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences since October 2012. She previously served as Director of International Affairs at the same faculty from September 2013 to March 2015. Before her position at Osnabrück, she held professorships at the Federal University of Applied Administrative Sciences in Brühl and the University of Applied Sciences Wiesbaden.

Her educational background includes a PhD in Psychology from Ruhr University Bochum (2002), an MA in Cultural Sciences from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" (1998), and dual MA and Bachelor degrees in Psychology from the same Bulgarian institution (1997, 1996). She completed her Habilitation in Psychology and Intercultural Communication at Passau University in 2008.

Prof. Genkova's research focuses primarily on diversity management, intercultural competence, business psychology, and migration studies. Her work examines the psychological aspects of intercultural communication, diversity in organizations, and the impact of international experiences on competence development. She has developed frameworks for measuring intercultural competence and investigating its relationship with workplace outcomes.

Her extensive publication record from 2022-2024 demonstrates a strong focus on practical applications of diversity competence in various sectors including police work, STEM fields, and higher education. Her research often addresses how intercultural competence can be measured, developed, and applied to reduce prejudice and improve organizational effectiveness in diverse environments.

Prof. Genkova has been actively involved in numerous research projects related to diversity and intercultural competence, including EU-funded initiatives and national research collaborations. Her work bridges theoretical psychological frameworks with practical organizational applications, particularly in German contexts.

She regularly presents her research at national and international conferences including IFKAD, the German Psychological Society, and specialized workshops on diversity and intercultural communication. Her recent presentations focus on diversity management challenges, intercultural competence measurement, and the relationship between cultural intelligence and workplace outcomes.
