Petero Kalule

Petero Kalule serves as Senior Lecturer in Law at London South Bank University's School of Law and Social Sciences, affiliated with the Law Digital x Data Research Centre since joining in 2020. Their scholarship critically engages with legal frameworks through cultural and technological lenses while contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to social justice.

Research interrogates law's relationship with aesthetics, sound, and Black feminist/queer theory through deconstruction and post-modern frameworks. Key trajectories examine abolitionary critiques of human rights law, ethics of care in legal systems, and regulation of AI capitalism. This work positions law within polyphonic cultural narratives while challenging sonic certitude and algorithmic governance.

Publication trends (2020-2023) reveal three convergent strands: 1) Museum discourse and Black aesthetics in legal storytelling, 2) Unfreedom critiques of human rights frameworks, and 3) Abolitionary listening practices intersecting with AI labor exploitation. These threads consistently employ narrative techniques to expose legal rationality's limitations while centering marginalized epistemologies.

Dr. Kalule actively supervises PhD candidates in critical legal theory domains and teaches Property, Equity & Trusts alongside Jurisprudence. As a published poet (Guillemot Press collections 'Kalimba' and 'Mash-River-Raft-Feather'), they're currently authoring 'Law, Technology, and Incalculability'. They use they/them pronouns and maintain an ORCID profile (0000-0002-1468-3290).
