Benjamin Lishman

Dr. Benjamin Lishman serves as Associate Dean (Education and Student Experience) in the School of Engineering at London South Bank University (LSBU). He holds a Lecturer academic rank and teaches Mechanical Engineering and Design courses, specializing in solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, and finite element analysis. His research focuses on Arctic sea ice mechanics, including ice friction dynamics, acoustic emissions from ice breakup, and rubble influence on ice movement. He collaborates with climate modellers to translate engineering insights into geophysical predictions for Arctic futures. Dr. Lishman also contributes to the ISO Standard for Arctic Offshore Engineering.

Education: PhD (2007, UCL/Bristol), MPhil (2004, Portsmouth), MEng (2003). Prior roles include postdoctoral research at UCL and teaching at Portsmouth University. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly education and climate action.

Research highlights include acoustic emission analysis for ice road safety and rubble mechanics impacting Arctic infrastructure design. He has published 32 research outputs since 2009, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to environmental and educational challenges.
