Peter van Haastert

Peter van Haastert is Professor of Cell Biochemistry at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Science and Engineering. With over four decades of research experience, his laboratory investigates fundamental mechanisms of cell movement and signal transduction using the social amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum as a model system.

Research emphases include:

• cGMP signaling pathways in chemotaxis
• Pseudopod dynamics during cellular migration
• Development of novel assays for membrane activation
• Evolution of stress response mechanisms

His methodological innovations include GRminusRD for detecting plasma membrane processes and advanced techniques for pseudopod tracking. Recent work synthesizes 45 years of cGMP pathway research.
