Dr. Peter Weber is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Economics (WWZ) at the University of Basel, where he has taught Equity Markets I and II in the Master of Science in Business and Economics program since 2015. He holds a doctorate from the University of Basel in collaboration with New York University’s Stern School of Business, and his academic background includes studies at the Universities of Basel, Heidelberg, and NYU.
His research interests include:
- Equity markets, with a focus on primary markets, price discovery, and liquidity
- Corporate finance, particularly company valuation and shareholder activism
- Corporate governance from economic and legal perspectives
His recent publications examine market liquidity, IPO characteristics in Germany and Switzerland, hedge fund activism, and the price effects of significant shareholding disclosures. These works reflect a strong trend in empirical finance and capital markets research, often analyzing regulatory and market structure impacts on investor behavior and security pricing.

Peter Weber advises and consults on capital market legal cases and collaborates on research projects in finance. While not leading a formal lab or team, his academic work is deeply integrated with both theoretical and practical aspects of financial markets. He is also actively involved in the financial sector as managing partner at Arpig AG, where he oversees investment strategy and M&A activities.
