Dr. Peter Thorsheim is a Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of History at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. His research focuses on environmental history, modern Britain, technology, culture, gender, and sexuality. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2000) and a B.A. from Carleton College (1991).
Thorsheim’s work examines intersections of environmental challenges and human agency, particularly in industrial contexts. He has published extensively on topics such as WWII recycling practices, urban pollution in London, and cultural perceptions of environmental hazards. His notable works include *Inventing Pollution* (2006), *Waste into Weapons* (2015), and co-edited volumes like *A Mighty Capital under Threat* (2020). His research bridges environmental, technological, and social history, offering critical insights into historical resource management and policy.
Recent courses taught include *Technology and Science in Society II* (Spring 2023) and *Britain, 1815-1914: The Age of Industry and Empire* (Fall 2023). His awards include a shortlist for the 2017 Turku Book Award for *Waste into Weapons*.
