معرفی
Peter Sudmant is an Assistant Professor (Affiliated) in the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on the computational and experimental interrogation of genetic and molecular diversity, particularly in the context of aging, genome structure, and cellular evolution. He leads the Sudmant Lab, which employs cutting-edge genomic techniques to study stress and aging mechanisms in organisms, including the evolution of longevity in species like rockfish and bats.
Research Interests
- Genomics and evolution of aging mechanisms
- Structural variation in genomes
- Post-transcriptional gene regulation and somatic mutation
- Comparative genomics of long-lived species
Recent Work Highlights
Recent publications include studies on rockfish genome assembly, ape genome sequencing, and viral adaptation in bats. The lab's work has been featured in Nature, Science, and Cell, with notable contributions to understanding the genetic basis of longevity and somatic mutations in aging.
Awards & Grants
- NIH K99/R00 Career Transition Award (2024)
- Glenn Foundation Grant (2019)
- R35 Award (2021)
- Hellman Foundation Fellowship (2020)
Lab & Team
The Sudmant Lab includes postdocs (e.g., Manny Vazquez), graduate students (e.g., Isabel Serrano, Stacy Li), and undergraduate researchers. Collaborations span computational biology, wet-lab experiments, and interdisciplinary projects with institutions like Penn State and the University of Victoria.
