Peter Sigurdson Lunga

Peter Sigurdson Lunga is an Associate Professor in History at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), based in the Department of Teacher Education. He teaches history, history didactics, theories of science, and research methods at the Master’s level for Primary and Lower Secondary Teacher programs. His academic background includes a BA and MA in History from the University of Oslo, a PhD in History from the University of Cambridge, and a BA in Drama from Oslo Metropolitan University.

His research focuses on medieval genealogies, saints’ narratives, and the intersection of drama and historical empathy. Key projects include the MIDDAK (Medieval Didactics Research Group) and HIPOLS (History, Politics, and Social Development), exploring how dramapædagogiske methods enhance historical empathy in education. He has contributed to studies on Sami origins narratives in medieval and Viking contexts.

Recent publications analyze Saint Óláfr’s legacy in Norwegian-Icelandic-Orkney genealogies and gender roles in English royal genealogies. His work bridges historiography, cultural identity, and pedagogical innovation. He has participated in international conferences and radio programs discussing medieval figures like Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth I, showcasing his engagement with public history.

Lunga supervises MA students in history and didactics, and his outreach includes radio collaborations (NRK P2) and lectures on medieval themes such as ‘Historical Empathy Through Film and Roleplay.’ He is affiliated with the Collegium Medievale and actively contributes to Nordic medieval research networks.
