Peter Romaniuk is Associate Professor of Political Science at the City University of New York (CUNY), affiliated with both The Graduate Center and John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He serves as Acting Executive Officer of the Ph.D. and M.A. Program in Political Science at The Graduate Center and directs the Center on Terrorism at John Jay. As a Senior Fellow at the Global Center on Cooperative Security, his work focuses on counter-terrorism, global governance, and multilateral security frameworks.

His research explores terrorism, violent extremism, and multilateral counter-terrorism strategies, emphasizing the interplay between international institutions, global governance, and national security policies. Key themes include the politics of the United Nations, terrorist financing, and the effectiveness of multilateral sanctions.
Romaniuk’s recent publications analyze the drivers of violent extremism in East Africa, the role of development actors in counter-terrorism, and financial regulations to prevent terrorist funding through non-profits. His work appears in journals like African Security, Conflict, Security and Development, and Crime, Law and Social Change, as well as edited volumes on the UN and global governance.
