Peter Q. Blair is an Associate Professor of Education at Harvard University's Graduate School of Education (HGSE), where he co-directs the Project on Workforce. He is also a faculty research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and leads the BE-Lab, a collaborative research group involving Harvard, Clemson University, and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. His research focuses on the intersection of future work trends and education systems, labor market discrimination, occupational licensing policies, and residential segregation's societal impacts.
Dr. Blair holds a Ph.D. in applied economics from the Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania), an M.Sc. in theoretical physics from Harvard University, and a B.Sc. in physics and mathematics from Duke University. His interdisciplinary background informs his work on bridging economic theory and educational practice.
Current research projects include a large-scale randomized controlled trial (RCT) in India evaluating an all-women's STEM program aimed at improving technical and non-technical skills among female engineering students. This initiative involves designing surveys, analyzing data, and collaborating with stakeholders to assess program efficacy.
His academic contributions span over 15 key publications since 2020, addressing topics like occupational licensing's economic impacts, gender wage gaps, and the role of alternative credentials in labor mobility. Blair advises a graduate research assistant (Ashutosh Bhuradia) and maintains affiliations with institutions advancing workforce development and economic policy.
Blair's work extends beyond academia through partnerships with organizations like the Digital Harbor Foundation and the BE-Lab, which explore innovative solutions for equitable workforce transformation.
