Lisa Kahn is the Helen F. and Fred H. Gowen Professor in the Social Sciences and a Professor of Economics at the University of Rochester. Her research focuses on labor economics, organizations, and education, with notable work examining the impact of economic downturns on labor markets and workforce development programs. She previously served as an associate professor at Yale School of Management and held roles at the Brookings Institution and Obama's Council of Economic Advisers.
Education: A.B. in Economics (University of Chicago, 2003), M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics (Harvard University, 2008).
Current Affiliations: NBER Research Associate, IZA Research Fellow, and Executive Board Member of the Society of Labor Economists.
Key Research Interests: The long-term effects of graduating during economic downturns, technological change during recessions, and bridging the skills gap through public-private initiatives. Her work on the Great Recession's acceleration of labor-replacing technologies and wage impacts of graduating in bad economies has been widely cited.
Awards: Best Paper Award in Labour Economics (2010/11) for her study on graduate wage effects. Over 50 publications in top journals such as the American Economic Review and Journal of Labor Economics.
