Peter Pype

Peter Pype is a Research Fellow at the Department of Family Medicine and Primary Health Care, Ghent University, collaborating with the End-of-Life Care Research Group (Vrije Universiteit Brussel & Ghent University) since 2016. He serves as a communication skills trainer for medical students and holds leadership roles in international healthcare organizations.

• PhD in Health Sciences, Ghent University (2014) on workplace learning for GPs in palliative care

His research focuses on integrating palliative care into primary health settings through interprofessional collaboration and communication strategies. He investigates how general practitioners coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver end-of-life care, emphasizing practical training frameworks and guideline development for community-based palliative services.

Peter mentors medical students in communication techniques at Ghent University and leads international initiatives including co-chairing the International Association for Communication in Healthcare policy committee and chairing a European Association for Palliative Care taskforce on guideline methodology. His PhD research was funded by Kom Op Tegen Kanker (Belgian Cancer Foundation).

He actively contributes to the End-of-Life Care Research Group, driving collaborative projects between Ghent University and Vrije Universiteit Brussel to advance palliative care standards across European primary healthcare systems.
