Peter Poschen

Prof. Dr. Peter Poschen is an External Professor of Socio-Economic Sustainability at the Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources, University of Freiburg. He holds a long-term affiliation with the International Labour Organization (ILO), where he has served in multiple leadership roles including Director of the International Labor Office (Brazil), Director of Enterprises Department (Geneva), and Senior Advisor on Sustainable Development and Climate Change. His professional experience spans over three decades in international development, environmental governance, and labor policy.

Research Interests: Poschen specializes in the social dimensions of sustainable development, socio-economics of natural resource use, green jobs, corporate social responsibility, and environmental governance. His work emphasizes linkages between environmental sustainability and equitable labor markets, particularly in forest-dependent communities and climate-vulnerable regions.

Teaching and Academic Contributions: Since 2008, he teaches the module 'Global Societal Change' in the Environmental Governance M.Sc. program at Freiburg. He has also guest-lectured at ETH Zurich, Dresden University, and Addis Ababa University, focusing on agroforestry, international forestry, and environmental policy.
