Peter O'Halloran is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Queen’s University Belfast. His research focuses on organizational and clinical pathways for those with chronic diseases and end-of-life care, emphasizing the implementation of complex interventions. He is a member of the School's Research Ethics Committee and leads the Doctorate in Nursing Practice program. His current research includes advancing care planning for patients with end-stage kidney disease and evaluating transition services for young people with life-limiting conditions.
- Education: PhD in Nursing (2003) from Queen’s University Belfast, supervised by Professors Orr and Murray.
- Research Interests: Palliative care, chronic illness management, realist evaluations, and healthcare system improvements.
Recent projects include a feasibility trial on anticipatory care planning for older adults and evaluating 'My Healthcare Passport' for young people with life-limiting conditions. He has secured funding from the Dunhill Medical Trust and Marie Curie Research Funding.
Dr. O'Halloran has received the Health & Social Care R&D Doctoral Fellowship (1999) and a collaborative fellowship in 2013. He actively supervises PhD students in palliative care and chronic illness, including Helen Kerr and Briege King.
His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health equity and quality healthcare. He collaborates internationally, including with institutions in the UK, Ireland, and Australia.
