Peter Mickan is an academic with current positions as Visiting Research Fellow in Linguistics at the University of Adelaide and University Fellow at the School of Academic Language and Learning, Charles Darwin University. He has a long-standing career in language education, having previously served as Senior Lecturer and Head of Discipline in Linguistics at the University of Adelaide (2000–2015), where he established the Postgraduate Applied Linguistics program.

He has directed major projects like Barossa Deutsch, focusing on documenting and revitalizing German language use in the Barossa Valley and South Australian communities. His work also extends to Indigenous language revival, specifically Ngarrindjeri.
