Peter Mascini

Prof. Peter Mascini is a Full Professor at the Erasmus School of Law (Sociology of Law) and an Associate Professor at the Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (Policy, Politics and Society). His work bridges policy sociology and legal studies, focusing on policy implementation, unintended consequences of policy instruments, and the gap between law and societal reality. Key research areas include health/safety policy, asylum policy, crime/terrorism, and regulatory governance.

His research employs empirical legal methods, analyzing judicial processes, regulatory practices, and policy effectiveness. Notable publications include studies on judicial assistants' influence, disability policy models, and the Dutch prostitution regime. He co-authored Recht in het echt (2024), bridging legal theory with practice. He holds an ARF Grant (2016) and has advised one PhD student. His work addresses themes like risk regulation, corporate accountability, and institutional legitimacy.
