Peter M. Monti is the Donald G. Millar Distinguished Professor of Alcohol and Addiction Studies and Director of the Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies at Brown University. He holds a NIH-funded K05 senior research scientist position. His roles include leadership in alcohol and addiction research, education, and clinical practice. He has authored over 400 publications and serves on numerous national and international review boards.
Research focuses on adolescent substance abuse prevention, relapse prevention, combined behavioral and pharmacological interventions, HIV/sexual risk linked to alcohol use, and substance use impacts on chronic diseases. Monti leads major NIH-funded grants on alcohol/HIV interactions and substance use’s role in chronic illnesses. He trains psychology interns and postdoctoral fellows, advising hundreds of students.
Scientific contributions include awards such as the Mendelson Award (2018), RSA’s Distinguished Researcher Award (2006), and APA Division 50’s Distinguished Career Award (2012). He chairs grants like the T32 training program and co-leads center grants. His work bridges clinical practice and research, emphasizing translational science.
