Peter M. Beattie

Peter M. Beattie is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Michigan State University, specializing in 19th and early 20th century Brazilian history. His research examines interactions between marginalized groups (including enslaved populations) and state institutions. His work bridges social, cultural, and political history, with a focus on themes of power, discipline, and institutional control in Brazil.
