Peter Lyons is Professor of Biology at Andrews University, specializing in biochemistry with research focus on metallocarboxypeptidases and their roles in human health/disease. Earned Ph.D. from Dalhousie University and conducted postdoctoral research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Research integrates:
- Biochemical analysis of proteolytic enzymes
- Zebrafish developmental models
- Cell biology approaches
Investigates how metallocarboxypeptidases regulate protein/peptide activity through proteolysis, particularly examining:
- Functional consequences of enzyme mutations
- Evolutionary adaptations in enzyme families
- Pathways from prediabetes to diabetes
Funded by NSERC, NIH, and Grass Foundation. Develops accessible laboratory modules for undergraduate education, including enzyme isolation protocols.
