Peter Lucas is an Adjunct Professor at New York University, teaching in the Department of Experimental Humanities & Social Engagement, Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS), and Tisch Open Arts. He holds a Ph.D. in International Education from NYU (1996). His work bridges human rights advocacy with participatory media practices, focusing on documentary filmmaking, critical photojournalism, and peace education.
Research interests include visual inclusion in human rights narratives, youth media empowerment, and the intersection of art and activism. Notable works include Viva Favela (2005) and Action for Disarmament (2010). As a filmmaker, he directed Hooligan Sparrow (2016, Sundance Fellow, Oscar-shortlisted) and Before the Close of Day (2021, experimental documentary).
