Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Peter Loosen is a full professor and chairholder of the Chair for Technology of Optical Systems at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, RWTH Aachen University. He has been affiliated with the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology (ILT) since 1985, serving as Deputy Director since 1993 and leading research in industrial laser applications.
- Education: Physics degree (1980) and PhD (1984) from Technische Hochschule Darmstadt, specializing in high-power CO2 lasers.
Research Interests focus on optical systems, computational optics, and EUV technology, with applications in laser beam shaping and industrial material processing. His work bridges fundamental optical physics with advanced engineering solutions.
Recent Publications include pioneering studies on diffractive neural networks for ultra-precise laser beam control (2025), integrating machine learning with optical system design.
