Peter Liss

Peter Liss is a Professor in the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia, with a career spanning over five decades. He has held visiting positions at institutions including the University of Washington, Scripps Institution, and the University of Rhode Island, and served as Acting Director of the Climatic Research Unit (2009-2010).

• Education: B.Sc. in Chemistry and Physics (Durham University, 1961-1964); Ph.D. in Marine Science (University of Wales, 1964-1967)

His research focuses on biogeochemical cycles, ocean-atmosphere interactions, and environmental chemistry. He pioneered studies on air-sea gas exchange and played leadership roles in international programs like SOLAS and IGBP.

Peter Liss has received numerous accolades, including a Royal Society Fellowship (2008), CBE (2008), Challenger Society Medal (2000), and Royal Society of Chemistry awards. He has advised governments, chaired scientific committees, and contributed to major climate research initiatives.
