Peter Lindseth

Peter Lindseth is the Olimpiad S. Ioffe Professor of International and Comparative Law and Director of Graduate, International, and Non-JD Programs at the University of Connecticut School of Law. His career spans teaching, administrative leadership, and interdisciplinary research in comparative governance and public law.

• Education: PhD in European History from Columbia University, JD and BA from Cornell University.

His research focuses on the comparative origins and evolution of governance structures, particularly in the context of European integration. His seminal works include Power and Legitimacy: Reconciling Europe and the Nation-State and co-edited volumes on comparative administrative law. He has contributed to leading journals such as the Columbia Law Review, European Law Journal, and Yale Law Journal.

Lindseth has held visiting professorships at Yale Law School, Princeton, Helsinki, Tilburg, Paris, Aix-Marseille, Luiss University of Rome, and Queen Mary University of London. His fellowships and research affiliations include institutions like the European University Institute and the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History.

• Scientific Awards: Fellowships/research associateships at American Academy in Berlin, European University Institute, French Conseil d’Etat, Max Planck Institute for European Legal History, NYU School of Law, and University of Oxford Centre for International Studies.

Administratively, he oversees UConn’s LLM and SJD programs, the Martin-Flynn Global Law Professor program, and exchange partnerships. He co-directs the Program in Corporate and Regulatory Compliance with UConn’s business school. Prior to UConn, he held roles at Columbia Law School, including associate director of the European Legal Studies Center.
