Peter-Leon Hagedoorn is a tenured Associate Professor of Biocatalysis at the Department of Biotechnology, TU Delft. His research focuses on mechanistic investigations of metalloenzymes (e.g., ferritin, chlorite dismutase) and pioneering metalloproteomics techniques like MIRAGE. He developed microsecond-timescale rapid mixing tools such as Nanospec and MHQ, advancing enzyme kinetics studies. Recent work includes enzyme immobilization and flow biocatalysis using thermophilic glycosyl transferases. He has authored over 110 peer-reviewed publications, emphasizing enzyme mechanism elucidation and metalloproteomics.
Professional roles include editorial board membership at Analytical Biochemistry, leadership in the European Biocatalysis division (EFB), and workgroup leadership in the COST action FeSImmChemNet. He organizes conferences and chairs the Dutch Biotechnology Society’s events. His research integrates biocatalysis, protein engineering, and advanced spectroscopic methods to address challenges in biotechnology and metal homeostasis.
Advising spans multiple PhD and postdoc researchers, with projects on enzyme mechanisms, biocatalyst design, and metalloproteomics applications. His lab collaborates widely, leveraging interdisciplinary approaches to advance industrial biotechnology and fundamental enzyme science.
