Dr. Peter Kvam is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at The Ohio State University, leading the Cognition & Decision Modeling Laboratory. His research focuses on decision-making processes, cognitive modeling, Bayesian statistics, and applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning. He explores dynamic decision environments, disordered decision-making in substance dependence, and computational methods to understand cognitive processes.
His work integrates interdisciplinary tools from economics, neuroscience, and computer science to model human behavior. Current projects include studying polarization in decision-making, the role of goals in preference formation, and leveraging AI for model development and analysis. Peter collaborates with researchers on topics ranging from quantum cognition to evolutionary decision strategies.
He advises graduate students such as Abhay Alaukik and Anderson Fitch, who investigate political psychology, computational modeling, and behavioral interventions. The lab actively recruits students interested in decision science and cognitive modeling.
Key research themes include the development of evidence-accumulation models, preference dynamics, and the application of machine learning to small-sample preference assessment. Peter’s work bridges theoretical models with empirical data to address real-world challenges in health, environment, and social dynamics.
