Peter Kuniholm is Professor of Anthropology and Research Professor at the University of Arizona's Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research. He specializes in dendrochronological applications for archaeological and historical dating.
His research establishes precise chronologies for ancient Mediterranean civilizations through tree-ring analysis. Kuniholm has developed extensive dendrochronological sequences spanning millennia, notably contributing to Aegean, Anatolian, and Near Eastern chronologies. His work integrates radiocarbon dating with tree-ring analysis to resolve historical timeline controversies.
Recent publications include studies of Venetian architectural history through sub-basilica timbers, Ottoman monument dating, and multiproxy approaches to Mediterranean chronology. Kuniholm's laboratory work supports archaeological projects across Turkey, Greece, Egypt, and throughout the Mediterranean basin.
He maintains active collaborations with international archaeological teams, providing scientific dating for significant cultural heritage sites. His office and laboratory are located in the Bryant Bannister Tree-Ring Building at the University of Arizona.
