معرفی
Peter Kroth is a Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Konstanz, where he leads the Plant Ecophysiology Group within the Section of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. His research program focuses on the physiological and molecular mechanisms that enable microorganisms, particularly diatoms, to adapt to varying light conditions and environmental stressors.
Professor Kroth's research interests center on plant ecophysiology with specific emphasis on diatom biology. His work investigates how these microalgae regulate photosynthesis, adapt to extreme light conditions (particularly in polar environments), and fix carbon dioxide. He has made significant contributions to understanding aureochromes - novel blue light receptors in diatoms - and their role in light-dependent rhythmic regulation.
His scientific work has been supported through numerous DFG-funded projects including infrastructure priority programs, research grants, collaborative research centers, and research training groups. Professor Kroth has served both as principal investigator and sub-project manager on studies examining transport processes across multiple membranes, organellar metabolic networks in Stramenopiles, and physiological responses of diatoms in various environmental conditions.
Through his leadership in projects examining polar light adaptation in marine micro-eukaryotes and comparative functional biodiversity of Antarctic and Arctic Sea Ice Communities, Professor Kroth has established himself as a significant contributor to understanding how microorganisms adapt to extreme environments.
