Peter Kohl is a Full Professor and Director of the Institute for Experimental Cardiovascular Medicine at the University Heart Center Freiburg since 2015. He also serves as Editor-in-Chief of the The Journal of Physiology since 2022. His career spans roles such as Post-Doc at the University of Oxford and Head of the Cardiac Mechano-Electric Feedback Lab at the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, University of Oxford, before holding a Chair in Cardiac Biophysics and Systems Biology at Imperial College London (2010–2015).
Research interests focus on Cardiac Mechano-Electric Feedback, Hetero-cellular Interactions, and Structure-Function Imaging and Modelling. His recent publications emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to cardiovascular medicine, integrating biophysics, cellular signaling, and advanced imaging techniques.
He leads the Institute for Experimental Cardiovascular Medicine, advancing translational research at the University Heart Center Freiburg. His work involves collaborations in mechano-electric coupling, heterocellular communication, and nuclear architecture stability in cardiac contexts.
