Professor Peter Kawalek is a Professor of Information Management and Director of the Centre for Information Management, leading the Information Management academic group. He holds degrees including a PhD, BSc, BPl, and MSc. His expertise spans digital economy, information systems, cybernetics, and systems thinking, with a focus on applying these to organizational change and technological impact. Previously, he served as Head of Business Economics and Strategy Group at Manchester Business School and held roles at Manchester University's Computer Science Department and Warwick Business School.
His research has addressed over £2 million in projects funded by EPSRC, UK government bodies, and local councils. Notable contributions include the Lancashire-wide MADE project, enhancing multi-agency data exchange, and strategic initiatives with organizations like SAP, BT, and Manchester City FC. He has also supported public sector transformations, including award-winning change programs in Salford and North Lincolnshire councils.
Key research interests include smart cities, digital maturity in SMEs, and the attention economy. His work integrates interdisciplinary approaches, often linking technology adoption to societal outcomes. Collaborations with global companies and public institutions highlight his applied research focus.
Professor Kawalek has advised entities ranging from NHS hospitals to charities like the Royal Commonwealth Society, contributing to projects such as the Jubilee Time Capsule for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. His publications span journals like California Management Review and Information and Management, emphasizing actionable insights for strategic decision-making.
