Peter Kast is a Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences at ETH Zürich. He leads the Kast Lab, focusing on enzyme investigation and engineering through directed molecular evolution. His research integrates chemical and biological methodologies to study functional biological molecules, particularly enzymes in pathogenic organisms.
- Education: Dipl. Natw. ETH (1986), ETH Medal for Diploma Thesis, ETH Medal for Doctoral Studies.
Research interests include directed molecular evolution, which involves gene mutation, bacterial selection, and amplification of improved variants. His work aims to enhance biocatalysts' efficiency and stability while refining evolutionary methodologies.
Scientific awards include two ETH Medals for his diploma and doctoral theses. He teaches courses like 'Biological Chemistry A: Technologies for Directed Evolution of Proteins' (529-0739-10L) and 'Biological Chemistry B: New Proteins from Directed Evolution Experiments' (529-0739-01L), emphasizing hands-on research training for students.
