معرفی
Peter Jones is Professor of Statistics and Pro Vice Chancellor for Research and Enterprise at Keele University, where he has held leadership positions since 2005 including Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Head of the Department of Mathematics. He obtained his BSc in Mathematics and MSc in Biometry from the University of Reading, followed by a PhD in Statistics from Aberystwyth under Professor Owen Davies. Externally, he serves as a non-executive director of the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital Trust and sits on a NICE technology appraisal committee.
His research focuses on medical statistics and epidemiology, particularly disease modeling using genetic predictors and Bayesian approaches in clinical trial design. He leads projects under Keele's Institute for Science and Technology in Medicine (ISTM) research themes:
- Diagnostic Engineering & Proteomics
- Health Services Research
His publications demonstrate consistent focus on genetic epidemiology, spanning autoimmune disorders, cancer susceptibility, inflammatory bowel diseases, and endocrine oncology. The research typically combines molecular biology data with advanced statistical modeling to identify disease mechanisms and biomarkers.
Major research funding has been secured from:
- Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)
- Medical Research Council (MRC)
- Action Medical Research
- National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)
He collaborates extensively with clinical researchers and contributes to the ISTM's interdisciplinary teams, focusing on translational applications of statistical models in healthcare diagnostics and service optimization.
