Dr Sneddon's research falls under the category of Educational Physics. While he has a general interest in improving the student experience in all areas of physics, his particular focus is on the student experiences of, and attitudes towards, laboratory teaching. His work spans both physics education research and contributions to gravitational wave detection research, showing a unique interdisciplinary approach that bridges educational theory with advanced physics research.
His educational research has examined student perceptions of physics learning during both school practical work and undergraduate laboratory work. His recent work addresses critical issues in physics education, including the physics teacher shortage and its implications for future scientific workforce development.
