Peter H Hennings

Dr. Peter H Hennings is a Research Professor at the Bureau of Economic Geology, Jackson School of Geosciences, The University of Texas at Austin. He leads the Center for Injection and Seismicity Research (CISR) as Principal Investigator and serves as an Advisor. Additionally, he lectures in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. With a career spanning academia and industry, he retired from ConocoPhillips in 2015 after 25 years as a research scientist and technical manager. His education includes a B.S. and M.S. from Texas A&M University and a Ph.D. from UT Austin.

His research focuses on structural geology, induced seismicity, reservoir geomechanics, and Rocky Mountain geology. He has conducted over 100 field seminars on seismic structural analysis and geomechanics. Notable awards include AAPG Distinguished Lecturer and GSA Fellow. Peter is a founder of the AAPG Petroleum Structure and Geomechanics Division.

His work integrates geomechanical modeling, InSAR monitoring, and hydrogeological analysis to address anthropogenic seismicity and subsurface integrity challenges. Recent projects include studying fault networks in the Permian Basin and evaluating pore pressure thresholds for fault slip.
