Peter Gorsevski

Peter Gorsevski is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography within the School of Earth, Environment & Society at Bowling Green State University. He has been with BGSU since 2007, initially as an Assistant Professor (2007-2013) and promoted to Associate Professor in 2013. Additionally, he serves as the Assistant Director of the Sustainability and the Environment Center of Excellence at BGSU since 2010.

Dr. Gorsevski received his educational background from multiple institutions:

• Ph.D. in Forest Resources from the University of Idaho (1998-2002)
• M.S. in Forest Engineering from Oregon State University (1994-1996)
• B.S. in Forestry from University Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia (1986-1992)

His research focuses on advanced geospatial technologies and their applications in environmental science. Dr. Gorsevski specializes in Geographic Information Science (GIScience), with particular expertise in spatial statistics, data mining, and spatial decision support systems. His work integrates remote sensing, photogrammetry, and airborne sensor development to address critical environmental challenges including landslide hazard modeling and terrain analysis. Through his research, he has made significant contributions to understanding watershed dynamics and developing innovative approaches for environmental monitoring and assessment.

Dr. Gorsevski's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on applying geospatial technologies to solve real-world environmental problems. His research spans multiple domains including renewable energy planning, natural hazard assessment, environmental health, and geological studies. Notably, he has pioneered applications of machine learning in geospatial analysis and developed decision support systems for wind energy development in the Great Lakes region. His work often involves interdisciplinary collaboration across geography, environmental science, computer science, and public health domains.

Dr. Gorsevski has secured significant research funding for his work, including:

He actively mentors graduate students, as evidenced by his numerous publications with student co-authors. His teaching portfolio includes both undergraduate and graduate courses such as Weather and Climate, Spatial Modeling, Geospatial Science, Spatial Statistics, Quantitative Methods, and Remote Sensing of the Environment. Through his role as Assistant Director of the Sustainability and the Environment Center of Excellence, he contributes to broader environmental initiatives at BGSU.
