Dr. Peter Gianiodis is the inaugural Merle E. Gilliand Professor in Entrepreneurial Finance and Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business, Duquesne University. He previously held a faculty position at Clemson University for a decade. His expertise spans entrepreneurship, technology management, and strategic management, with a focus on market entry strategies and university-based technology commercialization.
Dr. Gianiodis holds a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia (2007), an MBA from Queens University of Charlotte (2001), and a B.A. from Dickinson College (1993). He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles in journals like Academy of Management Review and Organization Science, focusing on competitive dynamics, innovation management, and entrepreneurial ecosystems.
His research explores intersections of entrepreneurship and technology commercialization, including how narratives accelerate resource mobilization for ventures and how universities foster innovation ecosystems. He serves on the editorial board of the Academy of Management Perspectives and has secured grants such as the 2019-2020 Research Grant from the Richard M. Schultze Family Foundation.
Gianiodis teaches capstone courses in entrepreneurship and strategic management, emphasizing innovation management. His work bridges academic theory and practical applications, addressing challenges like market entry into mature industries and scaling social ventures in distressed communities.
