Peter G. Mezo is an Associate Professor, Associate Chair, and Undergraduate Coordinator in the Department of Psychology within the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Toledo. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Hawaii (2005) and maintains an active research program focused on self-regulation processes.
His primary research interests include self-management and related models of self-regulation and coping, factors associated with stress and depression among adults, and principles of evidence-based supervision, assessment, and treatment. Dr. Mezo directs the Adaptive Regulation and Coping Lab and the Anxiety and Stress Lab, where he investigates how individuals regulate their emotions and cope with psychological distress.
His publication record spans over 40 works from 2003-2023, with recent emphasis on character strengths as predictors of anxiety, age disparities in mental health during the pandemic, and schizophrenia-spectrum specificity of schizotypy measures. His research demonstrates a consistent focus on understanding the mechanisms of self-regulation across various psychological conditions and populations.
Dr. Mezo collaborates extensively with researchers including Sarah E. Francis, Mojisola F. Tiamiyu, Wesley A. Bullock, and Jon D. Elhai. His work appears in journals spanning clinical psychology, psychopathology, behavioral assessment, and mental health.
